Should Britain and Portugal have a special friendship similar to what Britain and the United States have?

england and portugal is history's longest alliance going back to elizabethan. mostly america and brit are friendly its just natural national antagonistic bear bating that goes on. many are sick of our politicians being yes men to the american government and all expence sauties across the pond and why do we stil have to have american listening stations on raf bases where brits have to have pports to get into in england if the cold war is long dead. there is an over reliance of american armament we should re-establish a more independant strategy. we have no aircraft carriers and have dumped the harrier to the expensive and inefficient eurofighter
