Kobo books on a Kindle?

I needed a book for English but it was only on Kobo and I have a Kindle. I bought it but I need to take it with me, not just on my desktop.I looked up transferring files to an E-Reader (Kindle) and I just got liberate the drm and calibre and all thsese other technical terms I don't quite understand...I don't want to wipe out the book but I need some step by step instructions on how to take a Kobo file and put it on a Kindle. Do I need to download a specific program for file conversion? Thanks
